Fibromyalgia

According to wikipedia

Fibromyalgia is a disorder classified by the presence of chronic widespread pain and tactile allodynia. An example of tactile allodynia is when a person perceives light pressure or the movement of clothes over the skin as painful, whereas a healthy individual will not feel pain. Fibromyalgia patients are often affected by a number of symptoms other than pain, including debilitating fatigue, abnormal sleep architecture meaning the brain does not reach all the restorative levels of sleep necessary for overall health, functional bowel disturbances and a variety of neuropsychiatric problems including cognitive dysfunction which can mean short and/or long term memory problems, slowed information processing ability, diminished attention span and anxiety and depressive symptoms.

As with many other syndromes, there is no universally accepted cure for fibromyalgia, though some physicians claim to have found cures. However, a steady interest in the disorder on the part of academic researchers as well as pharmaceutical interests has led to improvements in its treatment, which ranges from symptomatic prescription medication to alternative and complementary medicine.

All I know about Fibromyalgia is that I hadn’t heard of it before I produced the leaflet that we give out at Healing On The Streets which includes the syndrome in a long list of ailments that our friends in Coleraine regularly see Jesus heal on the streets out there.

Then a young lady who was visiting Inverness from Aberdeen last summer approached me on the street to discuss her condition. She suffered from Fibromyalgia which would cause severe fatigue and pain, increasing as every day wore on. She described it in terms of a problem with her entire nervous system. Two of us made her as comfortable as possible on one of our chairs, gently placed our hands on her shoulders and decreed the peace of the reign of Jesus over her body. Instantly, she got excited. She described how she was feeling as if her entire nervous system was warm, tingly, soothed and pain free. She explained that she needed to see how she felt over the next few days, especially as each day progressed, but she was convinced that Jesus The Healer had touched her. She was really excited!

A different lady, coincidentally also visiting Inverness from Aberdeen, approached me last Saturday to discuss her Fibromyalgia. She was in some pain, worsened by the stress of a recent bereavement in her family. I was able to share our previous Fibromyalgia story with her and her eyes literally widened. Two of the ladies ministered to her. They told me later that the lady’s pain had instantly lifted.

As if that wasn’t enough, a Latvian lady approached me under an hour later. Her English was not fluent but I was able to understand that she was suffering from recurring and “untreatable” shoulder pain. Two more of the ladies ministered to her. Her pain instantly lifted and she was left tearfully grinning from ear to ear saying somewhat shocked “I do not have the words … thank you Jesus.”

Indeed … thank you Jesus!
